Rededication of the George Washington Statue
In June 2025 the Friends of the Washington Statue held a historic rededication ceremony for the newly restored George Washington statue in London’s Trafalgar Square. The statue was a gift from Virginia in 1921, and this event celebrated over a century of the “Special Relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Fay Campbell Events was honoured to be the event management partner producing all aspects of this high-profile event which formed 3 parts across one historic day.
The Rededication Ceremony took place at the National Gallery in Gallery 34, home to the famous British Collection. The 300 seated ceremony featured talks from the UK and US ambassador, Virginia Governor and other well-known dignitaries.
The indoor ceremony was followed by the official outdoor unveiling of the statue in Trafalgar Square with music from the Band of the Grenadier Guard.
The celebrations concluded with a formal dinner hosted at Lancaster House. Guests were treated to a champagne and cocktail reception outside on the stunning terrace with views of Buckingham Palace and music from a string quartet before taking their seats in the grand long hall for a magnificent three course dining experience.
